Joseph A. Baker is a graduate of Georgetown University in Washington, D.C. and the University of Tennessee College of Law. Born and raised in Sevier County, Mr. Baker is well known and respected in the community. He has diverse legal experience as a U.S. Air Force JAG Officer and former prosecutor in the 4th Judicial District of the State of Tennessee. Mr. Baker is a Life Member of both the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, a member of the Tennessee Bar Association and American Bar Association.
After serving as a prosecutor, Joseph A. Baker began his legal practice as a personal injury and criminal defense attorney in the Knoxville and Sevierville, Tennessee area. Utilizing his extensive litigation experience and his passion for helping others, Mr. Baker has built a practice dedicated to defending and protecting the rights of individuals throughout Tennessee. Virginia Jessup Baker grew up in Sevier County the daughter of a local judge. She graduated from Georgetown University and the University of Tennessee College of Law. Prior to entering private practice, Virginia dedicated her life to public service working in the White House, U.S. House of Representatives, and as a criminal prosecutor for the State of Tennessee.
While in law school, Virginia was honored as her class’s outstanding advocate in the University of Tennessee Legal Clinic. She is a graduate of the Tennessee New Prosecutor’s Training Academy. She worked as a law clerk in the Tennessee Court of Criminal Appeals focusing on Death Penalty cases.
Virginia is licensed to practice in all Tennessee State Courts. She is a member of the American Bar Association, Tennessee Bar Association, Knoxville Bar Association, and Sevier County Bar Association.
Her practice areas include criminal defense, personal injury and domestic matters.
L. Allison Dobbs received a BS in Business Administration from the University of Tennessee in 2000 majoring in Finance with a minor in History. She graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2004. During law school, Ms. Dobbs received four Certificates of Academic Excellence in law school, including certificates in Criminal Law and Criminal Sentencing. She served as the Publication Editor for the Tennessee Law Review and participated in the College of Law Legal Clinic where she represented indigent clients in criminal, housing, juvenile, and unemployment cases under faculty supervision. Ms. Dobbs also studied at Downing College in Cambridge, England during the summer of 2002.
After becoming licensed to practice law, Ms. Dobbs joined Baker Associates in December, 2004, and has focused her practice on criminal defense. She represents individuals charged with misdemeanor and felony criminal offenses, including DUI offenses.
Ms. Dobbs is licensed to practice in Tennessee state courts and in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. She is a Criminal Justice Act (CJA) Training Panel Attorney in the U.S. District Court in Knoxville, Tennessee, representing indigent clients in federal criminal cases.
She is a 2005 graduate of the National Criminal Defense College and a member of the National College for DUI Defense. In 2006 she received a certificate from NCDC in Advanced Cross-Examination and completed a NHTSA-approved course to become certified in the administration of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.
In addition to criminal defense, her practice also includes general civil litigation, including personal injury and domestic law.
Her professional memberships include the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, the Tennessee Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, and the American Bar Association.
Travis J. Ledgerwood joined Baker Associates in June of 2006. He received a Bachelor of Science in Psychology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in the year 2000. While obtaining his degree, he served as an officer in the University of Illinois’ psychology honors society.
In 2003, Mr. Ledgerwood graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law with a focus in advocacy. He was a participant in the University of Tennessee College of Law Advocacy Clinic and a three time recipient of the University of Tennessee College of Law Certificate of Academic Excellence Award. While enrolled in law school, Mr. Ledgerwood clerked for the Law Offices of Peter G. Angelos and Nassios & McLaughlin, PLLC.
After graduation from law school, Mr. Ledgerwood joined the law firm of Norton Luhn Spangler & Cramer, P.C., as an associate. While at the firm, Mr. Ledgerwood practiced in the area of civil litigation. He appears as co-counsel of record in two reported cases, MAY SLONE v. JAMES M. MITCHELL, ET AL., 205 S.W.3d 469 (Tenn. App. 2005) and MARY JANE CHAMBERS, ET AL. v. JOHN R. SEMMER, M.D., ET AL., 197 S.W.3d 730 (Tenn. 2006).
Mr. Ledgerwood is licensed to practice law in the state courts of Tennessee and the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Tennessee. He is a member of the Knox County and Sevier County Bar Associations. Mr. Ledgerwood’s areas of practice include general civil litigation, personal injury, domestic relations law, and workers’ compensation.
John Cory Cottongim is a Sevier County native. He graduated as a University Honors Scholar from East Tennessee State University. Mr. Cottongim studied in Costa Rica before attending law school at the Appalachian School of Law. Mr. Cottongim earned the distinction of graduating in the top of his law school class and serving as the Senior Editor of the Appalachian Law Journal. Mr. Cottongim clerked for the office of the District Attorney General for the 4th Judicial District of the State of Tennessee.
