Truck Driver Charged with DUI After Bordeaux Crash

A tractor-trailer driver sustained minor cuts and was arrested after his 18-wheeler rolled over near Nashville. According to a WKRN news report, the alleged DUI incident occurred on Briley Parkway near County Hospital Road in Bordeaux. Officials say he admitted to drinking vodka on the rocks before getting behind the wheel. He allegedly had a blood alcohol level of .24, which is six times the legal limit for commercial drivers. Before this rollover accident, the 55-year-old Arkansas driver had a clean record.

A DUI conviction can have a significant impact on the life of any driver, but it is particularly devastating for commercial drivers. Everyone who possesses a commercial drivers license (CDL) is held to a higher standard when behind the wheel. While the legal limit for drivers of passenger vehicles is .08 percent, the limit for commercial drivers in Tennessee is .04 percent. Expect Increased DUI Enforcement Effort in Tennessee

All Tennessee drivers can expect to see highway patrol officials out in full force this summer as part of the “Drive to Zero” campaign. According to a recent WVLT news report, this effort by the Tennessee Highway Patrol will focus on stopping and preventing drugged driving. Approximately every 30 minutes, someone is killed because of drunk or drugged drivers. While it is unclear how effective this campaign will be, it is clear that there will be more troopers on the roadway and more drivers will likely face DUI charges as a result.

Drugged driving is a crime that carries serious penalties in Tennessee. A first offense for drugged driving can result in a fine of up to $1,500 and a license suspension for one year. Some drivers will also face jail time and additional charges for possession. Read the rest »
